I have the new aluminum macbook (circa September/october 2008) and I'm trying to run Fallout 3 on it via parallels. I've seen all over the internet that it works like a charm for everyone who tries to run it on their macbooks. However, when i try to run it, it says 'Failed to initialize renderer. Hardware T&L required but not supported by adapter.' Ok so, I'm I huge fan of fallout, played almost all of the games and was in progress of playing fo3 when I got a Mac. Now we've all heard of the 'gaming on Mac' meme and all the other shit, but if we a are talking seriously, if Bethesda isn't planing to port to switch, the only way to get portable fallout is a laptop (MacAir 2019 is the only laptop I got).

Fallout 3 on Macs with Intel graphic boards (see Known Issues): If you have a Mac with an Intel video graphic board then you need to add a modified d3d9.dll file to the game folder and activate it through the Wine configuration.
Fallout and Fallout 2 were ported to the Mac, but aren't compatible with OS 10.6. However, there is a program called Crossover that, if you buy the Windows versions, you could install them on your Mac and buy Crossover, which would allow you to play them.

Recently, I installed Fallout 3 GOTY edition (a Windows game) on my Macbook Pro Model A1398. After reading several tutorials I instead opted to go a little more creative route by using homebrew, winetricks list-all and winetricks dlls list. This allowed me to easily instal all reaquired prerequisites for the game with little effort.

One of the great things about the homebrew version of wine is that I can build the latest development branch from source. The development branch is usually pretty stable and you get the latest and greatest changes. I discovered that by doing homebrew info wine. Here's how I installed wine on Mac OS X Mavericks (10.9.5). This is my 'wine for gamers'.

Warning: when installing via winetricks careful not to touch your keyboard until winetricks pauses with an installer dialog. I've accidentally closed installers.

That installed the base prerequisites for Fallout (as well as a few other extras which are used by other games I play). Now to configure wine.

Once inside of winecfg, configure the Graphics tab and enable 'Automatically capture the mouse in full-screen windows'.
